Iglesia de San Miguel

This Catholic-based church dates back to 1518 when Juan de Grijalva, the first Spanish settler on the coast, brought the ivory statue of St. Michael the Archangel to the spot. Later found by farmers in the fields, the statue stands on the altar of Iglesia de San Miguel.

Frequented by natives as well as travelers, this church is open to visitors from 7 am to noon and 2 pm to 8 pm Monday through Saturday and Sunday worship is scheduled 7 am to 9 pm.
