Cozumel, Mexico, or Island of the Swallows, is located in the Caribbean Sea off the eastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula and has many regions accessible to visitors.
Northern Region
There are a variety of hotels, coastline and ancient ruins in the northern region of Cozumel. At the most northern tip, you will find the Punta Molas Lighthouse. Working your way down into the mainland, you can visit the many Mayan ruins situated here, like El Real and San Gervasio. Along the northwest coast, you can choose from the resorts and hotels located there.
Southern Region
Cozumel's southern region has an additional array of sights and lodging for you to travel to on your vacation. Along the western coast, there are several reefs perfect for snorkeling and diving, making it a popular destination on the island. The Chankanab Reef, Yucab Reef, Palancar Reef, Columbian Reef and Maracaibo Reef are all located here. You won't want to miss the two ruin sites, El Cedral and Buena Vista. In the very southern tip of the island, you can also see the Punta Celerain Lighthouse.
City of San Miguel
Cozumel's metropolitan area, San Miguel, is located on the west coast, on the border of the northern and southern regions. Other than the majority of the island's hotels, the city has many interesting features including Cozumel's main transportation hubs, a dock and an airport. You will also find the Cozumel Museum, Arts & Crafts Market, shopping malls, Young Heroes Monument and more. Additionally, many island tours depart from San Miguel.
