The Museo de la Isla de Cozumel (or, the Cosumel Island Museum), located in Cozumel, Mexico, displays the history and focuses on the natural environment of the island. It is located in what used to be the island's first luxury hotel.
The ground floor of the museum is full of exhibits highlighting Cozumel's diverse ecosystems, including coral reefs and mangroves, and local conservation efforts. On the second floor, Cozumel's history is explored, with both ancient artifacts from the Mayans along side relics from the Spanish Conquistadors. Native stone tools and pottery are on display. Modern history is also on display on the second floor, charting out the island's economic and cultural development through the 20th century.
Del Museo café is als located inside the museum.
The museum also hosts special exhibits, such as the Dulce y Amargo exhibition, which featured Jackie Sleper's works dedicated to, and inspired by, Mexico.
There are several entertainment options while on the island of Cozumel. Tours and trips include the Caribbean Combo — Sailing, Snorkeling and Sunset, which involves sailing on a 65-foot catamaran; the
Lobster Dinner Cruise aboard a Spanish galleon; and the Playa Uvas Private Beach Pass, which grants access to exclusive beaches in the Chankanaab National Marine Park.
Guided tours of Museo de la Isla de Cozumel are available. The museum is located at Avenida Rafael Melgar at Calle 4 in the downtown area. Since this museum is on the main street, there are many restaurants, bars, shops, and theaters nearby. Expect to spend four hours exploring this museum.
