It is a taxi or a bus ride from San Miguel as there are no cars permitted. Yet, the minor expense is worth it. Parque Punta Sur is a place where you can snorkel, lie on the beaches and admire the amazing wildlife. This is an ecological region of importance on Cozumel. It is a 247-acre nature reserve at the southern end of the island. When you travel to Parque Punta Sur, you are able to combine some of the best activities of the island into a single day. You can take a dive off the coast into the waters in search of colorful fish and other marine life. You can snorkel off the reef. The waters are alive with sea turtles, stingrays and blowfish. You may even see an occasional shark. A tour truck will take you to see many of the other sights within the park. These include Farode Celerain, a lighthouse. It is no part of a nautical museum. If you can manage it, climb the 127 steps to the top. From her, you can see a breathtaking view of the park and beyond. Another obligatory visit is the El Carcol. This is the old Mayan lighthouse. When the wind blows from a specific direction, you can hear the lighthouse whistle. Also on the tour is the Columbia Laguna. This is home to several crocodiles. There are observation towers around the lagoon to improve your chances of catching a glimpse of these seawater reptiles. The Parque Punta Sur features several amenities. These include a concession booth, bathrooms and hammocks. You can rent necessities and usual items. These include snorkels. At the palapa, you can get cold beer.
