Cozumel, an island in the Caribbean Sea off the eastern coast of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula has a history that spans several centuries, and several cultures. Today it serves as a navigational museum located in the surrounding nature park: the
Parque Punta Sur natural reserve. An ancient Mayan lighthouse, known as El Caracol is also inside the park. This lighthouse served as a warning system to early hurricaes.
As a marine museum, it has an extensive collection that is definitely worth seeing. In addition, the wildlife and the nature surrounding the lighthouse is simply breathtaking. There are a number of activities that take place at Punta Celerain Faro throughout the year, and there is never a dull moment.
There is a free bus service that transports visitors to the lighthouse, or you can walk the beaches. The parking lots for tourists are located few miles away from the place.
Punta Celerain Faro is surrounded on all sides by the sea, and it is an experience of a lifetime to see the panoramic view of a white sea, spreading as far as you can see, from atop the lighthouse.
